With a litany of incredible victories and titles to his name, Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma has certainly earned his place in the pantheon of Smash. His record of dominance was so great that he’s been dubbed one of the Five Gods of Melee. However, like all other true greats, Hungrybox wasn’t simply born into greatness. Hungrybox started playing Smash as a childhood pastime with siblings and friends. The friendly rivalries forged in these sessions fanned his competitive spark into a flame, and he soon sought out competition at local Florida tournaments. Once he’d claimed the Florida scene as his domain, that attracted international notoriety. Over the course of seven years his consistently solid play landed him some major sponsorships, including one with Team Liquid, who Hungrybox has remained with to this very day. In 2016, Juan started to round into peak Hungrybox form. At Evo 2016 he faced off in the Grand Finals with Armada, one of the other Five Gods. In a back-and-forth series that went the distance, Hungrybox claimed his first Evo crown. He followed that up in 2017 by racking up a career-high 26 tournament wins. He’s been the #1 ranked Melee player of the year multiple times and has claimed every Smash Major on the competitive circuit.
In the world of Super Smash Bros. Melee, Hungrybox is 1 of 1. Nobody considered Jigglypuff a powerhouse character, until Hungrybox proved it. His cerebral, defensive playstyle created openings where none seemed to exist. His legendary resilience led him to snatch victory from defeat so often the community gave him the nickname, “Clutchbox”. These days, Hungrybox still competes at an elite level, adding Ultimate to his repertoire. Juan’s also no longer simply a member of Team Liquid, he’s a co-owner. Just as the early competitive greats of Melee inspired him, Hungrybox now creates content and organizes tournaments to help grow the competitive Smash community. When Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma is creating content, he’s doing it using his HyperX QuadCast USB microphone. As someone who relies on training and technique to win the day, Hungrybox trusts his QuadCast to be just as dependable. He also appreciates the bright, intuitive LED indicator and tap-to-mute sensor, because while he wants to Tap In and treat his fans to some Hbox pop-offs, he also knows there are moments when you should tap out.
